The Benefits of Taking Surveys
I’ve taken surveys online to make some money several years ago because I was not able to work, due to illness and physical challenges.
The payout is relatively low for each survey ($0.25 – $1.00), but there are cases, where you can earn $100 to $300 at a focus group survey. After you apply and qualify, you’ll be asked to attend a focus group at a physical location.
You’ll spend about 1 to 2 hours sharing your opinions about a product they are researching.
For most of the online surveys, the payout will be low, but when you keep taking surveys consistently, your earnings will add up.
Since I had the time to keep taking surveys, I made several hundred dollars over a few years 😊 And I’ll tell you towards the end of this blog post, what I did with that money.
What I discovered from taking surveys, is that not only do you earn some money, you learn what the “Big Corporations” want to know about you, as well as what new products, we as consumers would like to buy.
For example, if they are looking to introduce a new TV model, they want to know what kind of features bring excitement to your next TV purchase.

When you start a survey, they ask for your demographics – where you live (zip code), gender, age, single or married, employment, education, annual household income, ethnicity and race, religious background.
And most surveys will not ask for your real name or physical address and remind you that your information will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone.
When I took the surveys, I remember they would often screen for certain criteria of people, especially for women who are Latino or Hispanic.
So, I was able to tell, they really wanted to know the purchase behavior for Latino and Hispanic women because this demographic is very profitable for Big Corporations.
What Were Some of the Hottest Researched Topics?
I would say 3 of the Hottest topics that I remember back then were:
• Cars
• Mobile Phones
• Vacations
With cars, they wanted to know what make and model you are interested in, and whether you already started visiting local dealers for those cars.
Most importantly, they wanted to know when you are going to buy the car. Within the next 3 months, 6 months or a year from now.
With mobile phones, we’ve seen it evolve from flip phones to smart phones. And they wanted to know if you are thinking about buying or upgrading to a new phone. Especially to a new smart phone.
The mobile market has grown considerably over the past 10 to 12 years where the first iPhone came out in 2007.
And I foresee the mobile market continue to grow even more in the next 5 years because the 5G wireless technology (which is coming in late 2019) will give a huge boost in data transfer speeds for Mobile users.
This means billions will go into marketing and advertising on mobile platforms. For those of you who have or make websites, make sure your pages are mobile responsive or mobile compatible.
So by taking surveys on a regular basis, you’ll make some money, but you’ll also get to know what these Big companies are researching. This information could potentially give you some insights and ideas for what is going to sell well in the near future, like what I see regarding the mobile market usage with 5G technology.
After I saved up a decent amount of money taking surveys, I invested in an Email Marketing course because I was able to tell that all the big box retailers were sending emails to market their products to consumers.
And they still do it today and generate billions of dollars in sales. You or I could do the same and earn much better money than taking surveys.
